UNION BUDGET 2012-13 ANALYSIS!

Highlights of the Budget 2012-13 REALISTIC BUDGET The 2012 budget  is a realistic budget .A budget that can best be described as a  “Balancing Act in a democratic political economy”.In the backdrop of “real  Economics” Vs. “Real politik”, the budget was definitely not the one that would grab the headlines for being a BIG-BANG budget but on a holistic basis , the budget did justice towards achieving a balanced, sustainable and inclusive growth. It was in fact an excellent piece to see how it tried to delineate a fine line in a “Mixed economy” and the changing  role of Government /state as an indicative /prescriptive organ in post –reform Indian economy  y. Simply put, this budget appeared as one which will not benefit any single individual significantly but will lay the foundation for strong political economy. NUTSHELL OF THE BUDGET -Tweaked a bit with Direct income tax ..raising the exemption limit to 2 lakhs. -Increased the indirect tax rate (EXCISE AND SERVICE...

Lessons from the world around me!

Lessons from the world around me! 25/02/2012-Today,while i was helping my younger cousin with her preparations for Boards exam , i was taken aback to see "how extensive television viewing can be useful" !!!She is one cousin of mine who we use to incessantly  shout at for her madness to see TV's day in and day out ....and today when we were discussing the probable essay topics ..i was bewildered to note that she has become so imaginative...she can frame stories at the blink of an eye..(and in her own words..Di..dekhiye TV dekhne se kya faida hota hain) ! 25/02/2012-An Old postman has been coming to our place ever since i remember....though he retired years back.Today when i asked him why does he accompany's the new postman or still continue to work ..His reply was "Jindagi bhar yeh kaam kiye....abb kaise iss kaam ko chore"....This is  the true meaning of passion for "Karma" .

A poem with deep meaning!

A poem we received from a 15 year-old in Manchester: 'In 1918 a woman spoke out, She gathered others to protest and shout. They got the vote and made a stand, On behalf of women on English land. Yet in Zambia a woman despairs, Her daughter can’t learn but nobody cares. Girls must carry water from miles away, Only her brothers will attend school today. And in Manchester a woman quietly cries; She thinks of lost promises, pain and lies. This woman was beaten and emotionally hurt, With all her confidence dragged through dirt. In Mozambique a woman gives birth, But people don’t’ view girls with value or worth. What if someone gave this baby a chance; Not seen as a burden at first glance? In Dorset a woman is diagnosed with cancer, So many questions but not one answer. Scared and troubled with limited days, This woman hug s her sister and softly prays. And, in India a woman is married away, But she’s a young girl with a baby on the way. As she is a girl, she has ...

REMINISCENCES  OF  GROWING  UP  IN  A  LPG”ised (Liberalized, Privatised and Globalised) INDIA!!!! I  grew  up  in  an  LPG’ised  India.Early  morning  today  while  browsing  through  Radio’s  FM’s  to  tune  the  song  of  my  “choice”-I  felt  a  déjà-vu. I  am  not  used  to  hearing  FM’s  but  I  do  remember  fondly  the  days  when  AIR  was  tuned  in  to  hear  the  morning/evening  news  and  special  shows  in  the  weekends.  Those  were  the  days  where  AIR  was  the  default  option  of  entertainment  for  most  of  us. Today, in a  relatively  small tier-II city  like ranchi-we  a...

GENDER INEQUALITY

Gender Inequality Gender inequality   refers to disparity between individuals due to gender . Gender inequality   is defined  both socially through social interactions and stratifications  as well as biologically through differences in  chromosomes and hormones. It is the unequal distribution of a society’s wealth, power, and privilege between females and males. Around the mid-nineteenth century until nowadays, three beliefs about women and men have prevailed as part of biology or evolution. “One, men and women have different psychological and sexual natures, two- men are inherently the dominant or superior sex, and three – both male female difference and male dominance are natural.”   Considering these three beliefs, women experience gender inequality in diff...

Dear Santa

Dear Santa On this Christmas ,Please gift this world-Peace , prosperity and may good sense prevail. In 2011, the world witnessed excessive turmoil and chaos. Thank You for bestowing strength to “THE PROTESTORS” on the streets of  the MENA region  to stand up for their rights and for the cause of their nations. Thank you for spreading the fragrance of JASMINE all around ….but I earnestly hoped that  this fragrance would not have been marred with so much of violence! The devastating Tsunami and the subsequent Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan inflicted so much pain and distress to the fellow brethrens . Give them strength to bounce back with a bang. The world was shackled in webs of economic problems.Be it the US Debt crisis, the EURO crisis, the flight of capital from the emerging economies , the subsequent contagion and speculation, the wide display of “ANIMAL SPIRITS” pervading the world Economy or the Practicals of the theory of the policy of TRILLEMA of Macroeconomi...

India’s Endogenous Institutional Challenge of CORRUPTION on her 65th Birthday!

India’s Endogenous     Institutional   Challenge   of   CORRUPTION on   her    65 th   Birthday! When   Jawaharlal   Nehru   addressed   the   nation   at   midnight   of   14 th   August   1947   with   his   famous   ‘TRYST   WITH   DESTINY   SPEECH” ,our   country   was   succumbed   to   several   tectonic   pressures   and   hindrances. We   were   left   with   a   debilitated   Indian   story   after   more   than   200   years   of   British   Rule. Under   such   conditions   it   was   the   dreams   of   our   leader’s, the   aspirations   of   we   Indian’s   and   the   zeal   and   passion   of   one   and   all ...
